About Bayu Permata

Education built for the pace at which life actually moves.

Bayu Permata was founded on a straightforward observation — that financial education in Malaysia was largely designed for the young and the urgent, not for those who had reached a more settled stage of life and wanted to look at things carefully.

Our Story

How Bayu Permata came to be.

The name Bayu Permata — roughly, the gem in the evening breeze — was chosen deliberately. It is an image of something settled and unhurried: the cooler air that comes after the heat of the day has passed. That is the time, we felt, when it becomes possible to think more clearly about what one has, what one needs, and what comes next.

We began in 2019 as a small pilot — three programmes of six participants each, run out of a rented meeting room in Bangsar. The response from those early participants was consistent: they had not found, elsewhere, a financial education space that spoke directly to the concerns of people in their forties and fifties. General financial literacy content was written for those just beginning. Retirement planning resources assumed either enormous wealth or extreme urgency. Nothing was simply patient.

By 2022 we had moved to our current premises on Jalan Klang Lama and expanded to three distinct programmes with dedicated facilitators. Our approach has not changed materially since 2019. What has changed is our ability to maintain it consistently at larger scale, still without exceeding fifteen participants per cohort.

Our mission is modest in its formulation and demanding in its practice: to help each participant arrive at a clear, honest picture of their own financial situation, and to leave each programme with the knowledge to continue paying attention to it on their own terms.

We do not regard financial literacy as a destination. Household finances change as life changes — children complete their education, ageing parents require support, employment situations shift, health costs arrive unexpectedly. The knowledge our programmes provide is intended to serve participants across those changes, not merely in the weeks after a course ends.

"We want people to leave with a document they actually understand and can return to — not a certificate they cannot explain."

— Founding principle, Bayu Permata

The Facilitators

Those who lead the programmes.

ZH

Zahirah Halim

Lead Facilitator

Zahirah developed the core curriculum for all three programmes and has facilitated the pre-retirement engagement since its introduction. She spent fifteen years in corporate finance before moving into adult education in 2016.

RA

Rauf Azman

Investment Foundations Facilitator

Rauf leads the eight-week investment foundations course. His background spans unit trust analysis at a local fund house and several years as a fee-only financial educator. He holds the CFP designation from FPAM.

NI

Nurul Izzati

Programme Coordinator

Nurul manages enrolment, scheduling, and the written exercise materials for all three programmes. She joined Bayu Permata in 2021 after a background in adult learning design at a Kuala Lumpur-based professional training organisation.

Our Standards

How we hold ourselves to account.

No product commission

Facilitators receive no compensation from any financial institution, fund house, broker, or insurance provider. There is no referral arrangement of any kind.

Participant confidentiality

Personal financial information shared in private sessions is not discussed in group settings or retained beyond programme completion. Session notes are held securely and deleted after two years.

Curriculum review cycle

All programme materials are reviewed annually against current EPF regulations, SC guidelines, and BNM policy. When significant changes occur mid-year, relevant sessions are updated before the next cohort begins.

Facilitator qualifications

All facilitators hold relevant professional qualifications — CFP (FPAM), CMSRL (SC Malaysia), or formal adult education credentials — and engage in continuing professional development each year.

Post-programme feedback

Every cohort completes a written feedback form at the close of the programme. Summaries of that feedback inform the annual curriculum review and are shared with all facilitators.

PDPA compliance

Bayu Permata handles all participant data in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Data is collected only for programme administration and is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

What We Stand For

Financial education that earns its place in a person's life.

Financial education for Malaysians over forty occupies a distinct territory. The concerns at this stage — EPF account balances, unit trust performance relative to fees, the interaction between supplementary savings and retirement withdrawal sequencing, healthcare cost planning, and the support of ageing parents alongside one's own financial preparation — require a specific kind of attention that general financial literacy programmes do not provide.

Bayu Permata works within that territory. We do not position ourselves as advisers. We are educators. The distinction matters: an adviser recommends; an educator explains. Our participants leave knowing enough to evaluate advice, ask better questions of licensed professionals, and manage their own household financial picture with greater clarity.

Our programmes are conducted in English, with facilitators fluent in Bahasa Malaysia for participants who prefer to discuss concepts in that language during sessions. All written materials are in English. Group sessions are held at our Jalan Klang Lama premises; private sessions for the pre-retirement programme may be arranged at a location convenient to the participant within the Klang Valley, or by video call.

We do not advertise the number of participants who have passed through our programmes or claim particular success statistics. Financial education is not a product with a measurable output in those terms. What we can say is that most participants return to us — either to attend a second programme or to recommend Bayu Permata to someone at a similar stage of life.
